Succeeding with Social Media Skills
BAFTA winning cross-platform producer and social media expert Mike Flood-Page (former Editorial Director of Illumina) revealed in our popular new workshop how to make the most of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, blogs and second screens to maximise the impact of your content, and engage your audience.
Channel 4’s Social Media Community Manager Ally Branley joined Mike to explain how to leverage existing communities of interest around a programme topic, and how 4 uses social media to promote factual programmes just as other companies’ marketeers do with their products & brands.
The other guest speakers were Clerkenwell Films’ Social Media Manager Alexandra Wall & Online Writer Mike O’Leary who told how they had focused on character & audinece engagement to make Misfits such a success. As well as providing more information about the programme and interactivity (like Misfits community service game), watching TV is now a collective social experience so audiences are making an emotional commitment which needs to be satisfied – many want to use social media to connect to the fictional characters. Alexandra & Mike discussed the pros and cons of different platforms, and stressed the importance of planning your campaign, tone, and having a character bible and guidelines before TX. They ended by offering inspirational feedback to the delegates on the projects they’d developed in small groups during the workshop.
“All the speakers gave very valuable information” said participant Natalie Brown (Inspired Dreams)
